But what if we told you that there are some beaches in Bali that only the locals know about? These hidden gems offer a chance to explore another side of Bali—one that's remote, peaceful, and uncrowded.

In this blog post, we'll reveal the secret beaches of Bali that most tourists never find. These beaches are tucked away in remote corners of the island, and some are even hidden between popular beaches, so the locals understandably keep them a secret! They offer a chance to escape the crowds and soak up the natural beauty of Bali in a tranquil setting.

Most lists online will tell you a ‘secret’ beach is one like Nusa Dua’s Geger Beach, which is great but is now very well-known.

We can do much better. And with our list, you don’t have to escape to Padang Bai to find a quiet spot; you can probably find a secret beach close to where you are staying, even in south Bali there are still secret beaches only the locals know.

1. Pantai Timbis Beach

Pantai Timbis Beach is hidden between Gunung Payung Beach and Pandewa Beaches. Whilst the crowds congregate on popular Pandewa Beach, take the beautiful new road and slip onto this much quieter alternative. Peaceful swimming, long walks, warm breezes, and just a few friendly locals await you on one of the most beautiful white sand beaches in southern Bali.

2. Pantai Onielsa Beach

Snuggled between Karma Beach and Nunggalan Beach and close by famous Nyang Nyang Beach, Pantai Onielsa is so secret there isn’t a video on Youtube to share (if you visit and make one, let us know!). If you come early, you’ll probably have Pantai Onielsa all to yourself, and during the day you’ll share with only a few people, mostly friendly locals. What a place to meet new friends and learn a little Indonesian!

3. Pantai Padang Beach

Pantai Pedang is another hidden Bali beach, nestled between Blue Point Beach and Thomas Beach. And this beach is also so secret that there is not yet a YouTube video to share (be the first!).

4. Pantai Tanjung Simah

Pantai Tanjung Simah is a sweet secret Bali beach that lies between Pemutih Beach and Bingin Beach, and what a beauty! Just imagine bringing some local Nasi Bungkus (mixed rice) from a local warung and some beers and settling in here for the day. This is the Bali most people will not see.

5. Pantai Cemongkak Beach

Pantai Cemongkak is a sensational little beach that sits quietly between two very big names: Bingin Beach and Dreamland Beach. And just look—this photo is taken at sunset, and there is hardly a soul there. Pantai Cemongkak could be the spot for (dare we suggest) a proposal? No pressure there. Whatever reason you come, this secret won’t last forever.

6. Pantai Baligram Beach

We spotted this beach and saw it was not tagged on any map (now that’s a truly secret Bali beach, hey). It’s a well kept secret and it had no name, so we thought we’d jump right in and call it Baligram Beach. After all, it’s the new kid on the block, and so are we! It is just south of Balangan Beach and you could swim around from Balangan if conditions were right or come overland - you’ll have to follow you nose (‘cos we can’t advocate going stealth mode alongside the golf course, can we?)

7. Pantai Kaneko Beach

Beach? What Beach? Yeah, okay, so this is high tide and the lads are fishing off the cliff. But at low tide there is a secret little beach - Pantai Kaneko. Just don’t fall asleep on the beach at low tide, hey. It’s between Pantai Tegal Wangi Beach and Jimbaran Beach.

This video shows the beach at high tide, so you can’t see the beach. Best visited at low tide unless you’d like to try cliff fishing, as shown in this video.

8. Pantai Tuban Beach

If you are a plane spotter, you’ll get the appeal. Tuban Beach is between Jimbaran Beach and Ngurah Rai International Airport, literally next to the runway. It’s one of those secret Bali beaches that is right under your nose (and the noses of the incoming planes). Chill out on the beach, coconut in one hand, camera in the other, and wave goodbye to those tourists unlucky enough to be leaving paradise whilst you are lazing on the beach. This is not an unspoiled paradise; it’s for the plane spotters, and the kids will get a kick out of it too.

9. Pantai Batu Belig Beach

Looking for long walks on the beach without being asked if you want a massage? We love a massage, but there are times when you just want to escape your role in the tourist economy and just chill. And Pantai Batu Belig is a great place to get sand between your toes and walk off last night's adventures.

10. Pantai Kedungu Beach

Check Pantai Kedungu - ricefields one moment, ocean the next. A few coconut trees and a temple or two. This is relaxed and far from the tourist path (but still easy to get to).

11. Pantai Pigstone Beach

Pantai Pigstone is probably named after the rocky outcrop. The peace and tranquility here are notable. There is not much shade, so bring a hat and avoid the midday sun. Whenever you come, you can be sure there will not be many tourists (if any at all!).

12. Pantai Kelating Beach

From this great headland, you get a long view down Pantai Kelating and along the coast as the waves roll in on the black sand beach. Pantai Kelating is so quiet that it’s hard to believe that there are still beaches in Bali like this.

13. Pantai Pusat Beach

As we go further north, the sand is getting darker, and Pantai Pusat Beach is a great example of a black sand beach. Traditional fishing boats line the beach, and the pace is sleepy and unadorned. If you’ve come from the busy tourist spots further south, you’ll find it hard to believe that not that long ago all beaches in Bali were like this. They won’t remain like this forever.

14. Pantai Abian Kepas Beach

Just check the breadth of the beach at low tide, casting gorgeous reflections on the black sand beach. Pantai Abian Kepas is the sort of secret Bali beach we love to share because, when Kuta Beach fades into a vague memory in years to come, you’ll still remember stopping here and having a piece of beach paradise all to yourself.

15. Pantai Bebali Beach

Pantai Bebali is another hidden Bali beach with barely a sole in sight. For those of us who come from crowded countries, coming to a place like this really highlights just how lucky the Balinese are to still have so many unspoiled places like this to come and enjoy. You might meet a local or two when you visit; strike up a conversation and you’ll see how relaxed and chilled they are.

16. Pantai Antap Beach

As you descend the road to this beach and hear the waves roll in, you’ll feel a sense of calm come over you. If the tide allows, wander around to that little cove you can see in the photo, kick off your shoes, and relax. So, this is the “real” Bali.

17. Pantai Lembeng

Most folks bump and weave their way up Professor Dokter Ida Bagus Mantra Bypass (say that fast ten times!) on their way to East Bali and don’t stop at the amazing beaches just a short drive off the main road. If you pick just one or two beaches and take a moment to divert, you will be rewarded. Pantai Lembeng and the other beaches along this stretch are wild and untamed. The only time any of them are crowded is when a ceremonial procession heads down the hill to the beach to cast cremation remains to the gods. And that is an amazing sight to see.

18. Pantai Gumicik Ketewel Beach

It’s called the Ketewel Bypass, and that’s what most people do. But if you head down the lanes from the main road and have a poke you’ll see local fishermen hanging out and, well, not much more. Pantai Gumicik Ketewel all about the untamed nature and a few western-owned villas facing the sunrise each morning.

19. Pantai Manyar Beach

You can tell things get wild along this coastline just by seeing the rock reinforcements along Pantai Manyar. This gives you a nice elevated vantage point to look out over the sea to neighboring islands.

20. Pantai Pabean Beach

Spot the fancy villas? Beaches like Pantai Pabean have an interesting mix of fishermen and bankers, happily living side by side. These are folks who like to be a little out of the way and they wake each morning to a stunning sunrise and the sound of the waves mostly to themselves.

21. Pantai Rangkan Beach

Velvet green meets black sand beach at Pantai Rangkan and the waves roll in long and slow along this stretch. But it also gets wild, so take care swimming. As with all these remote, hidden beaches, there’s no one here to rescue you. But that’s why you are going to want to come and have all this beach (almost) to yourself.

22. Pantai Pernama Beach

Pantai Pernama means ‘first beach’ and it’s easy to see why the locals call it their number one. With traditional fishing boats coming and going and the waves rolling in, this is a little piece of beach paradise with a charming rural backdrop.

23. Pantai Saba Beach

Pantai Saba Beach has long been a sleepy pocket for western-owned villas, with several along the beach and a number of others amongst the rice fields and coconut groves beyond.

24. Pantai Masceti Beach

With its bold foreshore sign, the proud locals proclaim this beach as their treasure, and it’s easy to see why. At times it is wild and untamed, and other times it is a place to bring the family and snack on nasi bungkus (takeaway rice packets) on their day off. But most importantly, on ceremonial days, the beach becomes a holy place. Its not uncommon to see large numbers of Balinese undertake important ceremonies as part of a recent cremation.

25. Pantai Cucukan Beach

Traditional fishing boats are hauled up onto the rock-fringed shore at Pantai Cucukan (the name means ‘Grandson’s Beach), which suggests the tradition of fishing is alive through the generations. It is getting harder, however, with the Bali Straight being fished out. Sustainable fishing is the next generation’s big challenge.

26. Pantai Lebih Beach

Pantai Lebih means “Beach with more” and by the time you reach here you’ll see the name is apt: more black sand beach, more rice fields, more coconut trees and more paradise all to yourself.

27. Emerald Dive Spot Bali

Located between Amed and Tianyar, the Emerald Dive Spot is the place divers come to find Nemo, and a whole lot more. You can access this site by Jukung (traditional outrigger fishing boat).

The sandy slope houses a variety of marine life, including cuttlefish, gobies, Decorated dartfish, Helmut Gurnard, Nudis, and Garden eels. The reef gradually slopes downward, providing a natural habitat for reef fish, Gorgonian sea fans, Pygmy seahorses, ghostpipe fish, octopus, lionfish, and scorpionfish. At greater depths, there are a plethora of sponges, including Barrel sponges, and is an ideal spot to observe reef sharks. The drop-off section features elephant-ear sponges, hard corals, and semi-permanent Napoleon wrasse. Rare sightings of Thresher sharks and Eagle rays have also been reported.

28. Tulamben Beach

Resting between Amed and Tianyar, Tulamben Beach is a draw for all things ocean. Folks come here to dive the USAT Liberty and Boga shipwrecks and experience Suci Place - a dive spot with an artificial reef of stone statues of Hindu gods and goddesses, temples and stupas where you can spot Moray eels, ocean sunfish, and eagle rays. The beach itself is small round stone, rather than sand. There is a hilltop vantage point to get a great view up the beach with Mount Agung in the background.

29. USAT Liberty Shipwreck

The USAT Liberty Shipwreck lies between Amed and Tianyar. It served in both world wars, was torpedoed by the Japanese in 1942 and washed up on the beach. In 1963 a volcanic eruption of Mount Agung pushed it into the water. The wreck is 120 in length, so there is lots to dive and you can expect to see Big-eyed trevally, Jacks, Gobies, Lizardfish and Barracuda along with a variety of other marine life.

So what’s the secret? Well, even if you are a beginner at diving, the currents are gentile enough for you to take a learn-to-dive PADI course and get out here in the one holiday.

30. Pantai Nusantara

You’ll be hard-pressed to find any reference to this beach online, but just take a look at how peaceful and clean Pantai Nusantara looks. Located between Tianyar Beach and Pemuteran Beach, this could be the perfect place to book a homestay and just spend a week or a month in an immersive cultural experience. The locals know about it, of course, so you’ll meet Balinese who have headed to the beach for a little R&R and what better way to get to know a little of the culture than in a peaceful happy place like this.

31. Menjangan Island

‘Menjangan’ means ‘deer’ so it’s no surprise you’re going to see deer on Menjangan Island. But on the beach, while you eat lunch? Rangga and Olga's YouTube channel share a trip to Manjangan Island, showing the boat trip over, snorkeling, and lunch on the beach with deer!
